Event Description

Born to Prance’ is the story of one woman’s singular, self-styled journey of dancing up Ireland. This is dance theatre, stitched up with humour, laced with legend and sprinkled with substance… all rolled into one… catch it at  The Wallace High School on Friday 23rd March 2012 at 7.30pm

You are invited to experience this one woman’s dance odyssey as she pranced the length of Ireland. See solo dancer, Lisburn based artist and Wallace High School ‘old girl’, Anthea McWiliams, perform her unique tale in her one woman show, as she set out in 2008 to dance all the way from Malin Head in Co. Donegal to Mizen Head in Co. Cork - a total of some 500 kms over 10 weeks.  The longest performance of her life, the dance expedition was executed in the name of art and to mark her 50th birthday.

Devised, written and performed by Anthea McWilliams, with original film footage county by county, find out what possessed her as she tells the story reenacting the experience through visual, vocal and choreographic excerpts of endurance, artistry, and endeavour.  This is comic dance theatre like you’ve never seen before, unless of course you were there that afternoon on a remote Co. Donegal road fending off the locals!  Did she ever find the historic dancing masters of olden days, or the crossroads dancing of yesteryear?

The show was first performed at the ISLAND Arts Centre, Lisburn in November 2009 at two sell out performances and at venues in Antrim, Newtownards, Ballymena and Hollywood. Now she has her sights set on Broadway!

Anthea is currently writing her first book of the same title, pages still available for sponsorship.
